Everyone keeps asking me what my favorite part of my trip is and it is really hard for me to say.
Like I mentioned, Bangkok, wasn't my favorite but after leaving the city it only got more and more amazing.

After about 48 hours in Thailand, we headed north to Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai is the largest city in northern Thailand surrounded by mountains and jungle.
I and two others in our group almost didn't make it to the airport on time.  In case you ever need to catch a flight from Bangkok to other cities within the country just remember to tell your taxi driver either Suvarnabhumi (BKK) or Don Mueang (DMK) because you may miss your flight :)

In Chiang Mai, we stayed right next to the Night Market at Le Meridien.  The hotel was beautiful.  The location was perfect and made it so easy to just step outside and grab some local Tigers and Pad Thai.  The infinity pool was great between walking around the city to cool off from the extreme humidity.

In total, we spent 4 days in in the city.
The only solid plan we had made prior was a day at the Elephant Nature Park (more to come on that!)  Everything else we kind of winged it.

Being in a city surrounded by mountains in such a close proximity was really beautiful, even though the view is somewhat obstructed by the smog.  To make try and get the full experience of the glorious mountains, we decided that we would wake up early on our first full day and hike a trail we had all seen via a travel blog.

We woke up bright and early around 6 AM to ensure we could beat the extreme heat and humidity. An almost calamity ensued when we had some translation issues with our cab driver and we could not find the trail entrance.
After almost 2 hours we found the entrance and started our trek.
After about 30-45 minutes of uphill climbing, we crossed a very questionable wooden bridge into a yoga retreat/ temple.

It.was.breathtaking.

If the smog was not so heavy the view of the city would have been spectacular.
It was so serene and calming that it almost made you forget that it was a million degrees.
It may be one of my most favorite places I've ever been to.
Most of these photos are from that little temple on the side of the mountain.

If you are looking to take the monk's trail to Doi Suthep go here for a great breakdown of how to get there yourself.
