A few weeks ago Redbook magazine reached out to me asking to be apart of their "Redbook Haircut Challenge". They would set me up at an awesome salon in DC and interview me after to ask me how I like it. This sounded awesome, so what was the catch?
I had to go along with whatever hairstyle that the stylist decided on.
For someone who never cuts their hair, this was the CRAZIEST idea. However, I agreed to go along with this insane idea, because how many opportunities like this arise?
Plus, it's only hair. Right?!

So I wandered into DC for a consultation before “the big day” and I met with Kelly Gorsuch, the owner of Immortal Beloved to discuss the plan.
Cool is really the only way to describe the salon & Kelly.
He asked me my normal hair routine, how it is naturally & what I was envisioning.
We discussed going a few inches shorter, layers, bangs; nothing too crazy.
I was excited.
A few days later, after a crazy day at work, I hopped on the metro with my friend Jillian and we made our way to Immortal Beloved.
I sat down in the chair and was ready for a change.
Kelly started snipping and slowly my hair grew shorter and shorter. As I saw more and more of my locks fall to the ground I started getting nervous. My hair is naturally curly, so naturally short hair is basically an automatic afro. I started to panic a little, but totally trusted Kelly to make sure I didn't come out of this looking like a poodle.

Once he was done cutting, he sprayed some product in my hair, started diffusing my hair, and then starting dry cutting. I was difinately surprised at how short the outcome was. I didn't think a short curly hairstyle could ever work on me, but it did! Kelly brought out the best curls I've been able to achieve in ages.
It has been a bit of a change, but I am loving it.
My hair is manageable & healthy now.

I can't thank Kelly enough for making me love my curly hair again and finally giving my hair a much needed style. Also, thanks to Jillian, who does the social media at IB, you were awesome! You guys were amazing and made this such a fun experience.
Thanks go to my friend Jillian, for snapping all these great pics for me.
Most importantly, thanks to Redbook for setting this whole thing up! I love my hair and will definitely will be venturing back to Immortal soon.
